By the United Nations definition, “climate change refers to long-term changes in temperatures and climate patterns.” Today we are witness to the first effects of this phenomenon. El Puerto de Liverpool is well aware of the reality we are experiencing today, and we have developed various goals and strategies to confront these challenges.
Our ultimate goal is to become a net-zero company, meaning zero emissions of the greenhouse gases for which we are directly responsible. This requires a reduction of close to 280,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent (abbreviated as tCO2e), both direct and those produced in our supply chain through purchased goods and products, and the development of science-based targets.
Since 2019, we have been measuring our carbon footprint using the GHG Protocol methodology and under an operational approach. The direct emissions from our operations are made of up scope 1 and scope 2 emissions:
Scope 1 emissions refer to all emissions generated from the use of fossil fuels in stationary or mobile sources, while scope 2 emissions include indirect greenhouse gas emissions from the use of electricity in our facilities.
